Preparing the Public to Support the Invasion of Iran

To quote “the great communicator”, Ronald Reagan, “there you go again”. That quote aptly describes the latest rhetoric coming from the rabid right leadership of U.S. leadership which the press eagerly prints in lock step creating another enemy.

“The Iran regime must be made aware that if it continues down the path of international isolation, there will be tangible and painful consequences,” that from the U.S. recess appointment as Ambassador to the U.N., John Bolton, when speaking to the leading pro-Israel U.S. lobbying group, AIPAC. He also said “Iran poses a comprehensive threat” as a state sponsor of terrorism which must be stopped.

Then in a speech to the same pro-Israel lobby Dick Cheney said “The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course, the international community is prepared to impose meaningful consequences” and “For our part, the United States is keeping all options on the table,” he said. “We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”

And finally in a stern warning to Iran during an interview on Israeli TV fearless leader said" all options are on the table" if the Iranians refuse to comply with international demands to halt their nuclear program, pointedly noting he has already used force to protect U.S. security. He previously said diplomacy should be used to persuade Iran to suspend its nuclear program and if that failed then the U.N. Security Council should impose sanctions but then again he wasn’t performing for the cameras in a right wing state of mind Israel.

Not to be outdone Donald Rumsfeld claimed that Iran is putting the Revolutionary Guard in Iraq. In other words the increase in sectarian violence is not the beginning of a civil war as a result of U.S. invasion rather it is a result of Iranian interference which Iran will regret as “having been an error in judgment”. An easy deflection from his “error in judgment” while preparing war plans to invade Iraq and creating another illusion that our invasion of Iraq would be more successful if only Iran didn’t impose itself.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the American press actually asked Mr. Bolton what he means by “comprehensive threat” as opposed to an “imminent threat” which supposedly Iraq posed then demand specific factual evidence to support such a charge? Wouldn’t it even be better yet if the American press defined what is meant by “state sponsor of terrorism”?

I guess with the majority of Americans now believing the U.S. invasion of Iraq was based on a lie the last thing the American version of Pravda would want is a public that might conclude the U.S. is guilty of state sponsored terrorism in Iraq just like Israel is guilty of state sponsored terrorism in Palestine.

When Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said “Our nation has made its decision to fully use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and all have to give in to this decision made by the Iranian nation,” the press said this was an indication that Ahmadinejad “remained defiant” as opposed to the rational ranting of war criminals which represent the U.S.

We can’t trust Iran with a nuclear weapon but the rest of the world should trust us and forget that we and we alone used such weapons? We have a president who claimed “god” told him to invade Iraq and now this little ignorant man demands Iran disarm itself because “all options are on the table” including the use of nuclear weapons the next time “god” speaks to him.

We cannot do anything to change the right wing governments in Israel or Iran unless we change the right wing government in our own country which has used its role as the world’s sole super power to support and perpetuate death and destruction in the middle-east while claiming to export democracy.

If the press informs the public and demands that Congress uphold their oath to the Constitution and proceed with impeachment proceedings against the leader of the free world before god tells him to push the button then and then alone will the rest of the world believe that peace is truly possible.
