Yova's Rant
Time to take a break from the politics of the day and take refuge from the mendacity of the malicious myth makers in positions of power and privilege, the pundits who perpetuate the lie, the patriots who wrap themselves in the flag but send someone less well off in our burgeoning economy to die in their place based on faulty intelligence, our civic leaders who look the other way when a crime is being committed by one of their own, our educational leaders who teach conformity with standardized testing and breed acceptance of a system that is not in their best interests, and our moral leaders that get tax breaks for preaching the gospel according to Caesar in Christ’s name leading by example in their daily decadence while condemning others in a display of rank and utterly shameless hypocrisy.
Time to ignore the 21st century circuses where gladiators play games with a ball and can earn more in one year than most will ever earn in a lifetime as they participate in their own distractions. Time to let go of my angst as a member of a society that is on the verge of a nervous breakdown a society with a pharmaceutical industry addicting the public to legalized drugs – a pill to wake, a pill to stay awake, a pill to get it up, a pill to stop another life from consuming, and a pill to sleep it off and a numberless number of pills for the adverse side affect all this drug dealing going on while we have already spent hundreds of billions of dollars waging a war on drugs.
The signs of social collapse are everywhere and everywhere the signs are ignored: children killing other children, children killing their parents, mothers killing their children, husbands killing their wives, drive by shootings, and prisons to cage more people in the land of the free, home of the brave that now incarcerates more than 25 percent of the world’s prison population.
And although it’s time to take respite from this madness in the homeland where one reality is being created in order to replace a far less pleasant reality for most and enforced by whatever means necessary one cannot really run away from that which is and that which is, is the absurdity of existence in an insane society in which a sane man can only embrace that which is ludicrous and seize the opportunity to laugh or rant.
A recent poll of my fellow citizens were asked to predict future events likely to be experienced in the 2007 and offered me that opportunity to laugh, to offer my own predictions, and to laugh at them as well. Among those predictions were: another terrorist attack, a warmer planet, death and destruction from a natural disaster.
A warmer planet is a foregone conclusion but I predict that the 5 percent of the world’s population which uses 25 percent of the world’s energy will emit more than the current 22 percent of all CO2 produced world wide proving with every purchase of a bigger gas guzzler that ignorance is bliss and I predict that no one will have the courage to call for an end to the manufacturing of anything more than a fuel efficient four cylinder vehicle that stops for a fix on odd or even days.
Another terrorist attack is extremely viable given that violence begets violence and our blitzkrieg of iraq and our occupation to date certainly meets if not exceeds the definition of violence and all but guarantees that we will experience that which we have exported with intent to kill. My prediction would have been that we will experience another terrorist attack from a government that can no longer provide for our safety as a people because my government’s actions have increased the threats to our safety. And I predict no one will be responsible and no one will be held accountable for the next terrorist attack that will occur as a consequence of our shock and awe foreign policy. And I predict an increased role for the police state by whatever means necessary to stifle the dissent of those who dare claim that we are all responsible for the consequences of our actions.
As for death and destruction from a natural disaster I predict that there will also be more man made death and destruction from the ice caps rapidly melting to the occupation of iraq, and the impending invasion of iran because the more we abuse the environment and ignore our responsibility and the more we respond to conflict with violence the more likely we are to experience what is meant by as you sow, so shall you reap and based on all the available evidence I am compelled to predict we still won’t be able to connect the dots between our actions and the tragic consequences that will inevitably follow from our attachment to ignorance.
