Joe Lieberman's Amendment

Recently Sen. Joe Lieberman, Independent Neo-con from Connecticut, introduced an amendment in the Senate to confront Iran over its outrageous attacks against the American forces that now occupy the sovereign nation of Iraq which we invaded based on a series of lies.

The amendment authored by this country’s Likud Party representative in the U.S. Senate claimed that Iran is playing a “deadly and destabilizing role in Iraq, the Middle East, and the world” was approved by a 97 to nothing vote.

I know that Sen. Johnson could not vote. I know that the terminally righteous Sen. Vitter was too preoccupied with his involvement in a prostitution scandal and I know Sen. Brownback did not vote. All the rest including the opposition party presidential candidates voted for this perpetuation of perpetual war.

So much for the Vichy Democrats who failed for whatever reason or excuse to recognize that Lieberman’s language about Iran’s threat to our soldiers, to our allies, and the world are variations of the lies which led to war with Iraq. Today it is Iran that the White House claims to have a growing influence in the Middle East and has increased significantly over its intent on building a nuclear weapon and is arming insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan. That Lieberman isn’t concerned about the Saudi involvement in Iraq speaks volumes of his intent.

Besides what better way to avoid the scrutiny of our failed faith based foreign policy pursued by our 21st century form of blitzkrieg i.e. preemptive war than by launching another war based on deceit and deception while providing the delusional mind an opportunity to remind us we are a nation war and as such we must support our President and our commander-in-chief by withholding our dissent or be arrested for expressing it.

To claim that “Iran is playing a deadly and destabilizing role in Iraq, the Middle East, and the world” is too ignore the documented facts of our own responsibility for the deadly and destabilizing role in Iraq, the Middle East, and the world. To favor this amendment was to place ignorance over fact.

In fact Iraq never did seriously pose a threat to our national security certainly not “imminent” thus the unavoidable conclusion that our invasion of Iraq was both deadly and destabilizing as evidenced by those returning in body bags which still exist even though we are not permitted to see them.

In fact half of our warships including 2 of 3 carrier groups wait off the coast of Iran for that propitious incident to occur which will open the next front of the war on terrorism and further destabilize the Middle East and the world . In fact the same International Atomic Energy Agency that cleared Iraq now claims recent signs of Iran slowing down work on the enrichment plant.

In fact 97 Senators can’t find the moral courage to act with honor by holding this Administration accountable for the deceit and deception which was and is ultimately responsible for all the death and destruction that followed. In fact by supporting the Lieberman amendment 97 Senators now permit, accept and perpetuate the very same lies and fabrications that formed the basis for the war with Iraq to justify the war to come with Iran. In fact a war in which neither they nor those in similar economic stations, positions of political prestige or social circles will make any sacrifice in the future death and destruction which they now support unanimously.
