the karma of iraq
nietzsche once said one should not deny the existence of the furthest star merely because one does not see it.
tonight, while i was star gazing i thought........................................
i haven't posted a blog in over three weeks creating a certain amount of angst. nietzsche once observed there were no truths merely moral interpretation of phenomena. nietzsche also once observed that what arises from love is beyond good and evil. here then is my interpretation of phenomena free of morality since it arises beyond both good and evil.
when i post i do so as a legal alien sending out radio signals into cyberspace in the hopes of finding intelligent life that understands our present moment which stretches across the abyss from our past to our future owe's its existence to what we have been as individuals and groups in the past and what we will be, if we will even be, will be determined by what we do now.
karma, both individual and collective, is nothing more nor nothing less than an expression of that infallable law of cause and effect that governs the universe in which every action is pregnant with consequences.
i perceive myself as a sane man trying to survive in an insane society. my life's experiences compel me to paraphrse nietzsche's aphorism resting on a page from "beyond good and evil" that in individuals madness is rare but in groups it is the rule. as such my concerns are primarily directed to collective karma.
perhaps the best example i can offer is that of 9/11. after the actions of the first gulf war in 91 one of the consequences was that over 500,000 iraqi's, mostly women and children, died due to our destruction of their infrastructure (a war crime in and of itself) and the subsequent sanctions. ten years later nearly 3000 people were reduced to ashes which have long since disappeared. all actions have consequences. today a history is repeating itself and we are doomed to repeat it's consequences.
it is said that the root of all suffering is ignorance and based on my observations there is too much suffering in this world in which i exist. i can find no other explanation than ignorance. for example, the official explanation for 9/11 was that the so-called terrorists hated our freedoms and 3 years later 59 million people voted for but one of the many lies this pretender to the throne has fabricated to deceive the public into participating in actions that will have consequences which adverseley affect our safety and well-being as a country.
this weekend marks the beginning of my country's violation of international law by invading a sovereign nation that posed no real threat to my country. all those dead men, women, and children who lost their life because of a lie. all that negative karma that i paid for with my taxes. "ignorance" - who can ignore there were no weapons of mass destruction, who can ignore there was no nuclear missle capacity, who can ignore there was no al-qaida connection, who can ignore there was no imminent threat? only the truly ignorant can ignore the suffering they cause.
to believe we invaded iraq to bring freedom and democracy to iraq is to plead ignorance and to perpetuate the suffering for who we will be tomorrow is based on our actions now as individuals and groups. the reality is that our country, mine and yours, has committed war crimes because our government lied. and the reality is that our country, mine and yours, has committed crimes against humanity because our government lied. and one day our country, mine and yours, will experience the consequences of those actions directly or indirectly for whatever we do has a corresponding result.
in observation our my country's preemptive strike against iraq reminiscent of germany's preemptive strike against poland in 1939 based on deceit and fabrication - my actions today are to speak truth to power and take a step on the path toward a world where there is less suffering and less ignorance.
i demand my government act in such a manner by both accepting responsibility for their actions which caused so much suffering and holding themselves accountable for those actions by resigning out of a sense of noblisse oblige en masse for the good of our country, mine and yours. and in the future i demand a honest assessment of reality from my government and not some faith based fascism dressed up like conservative compassion.
and maybe, just maybe my government would be the first to address the u.n. by reminding the world body that after 5,000 years of recorded history resorting to violence to resolve conflict among groups has only resulted in more violence and more suffering as substantiated by an astronomical amount of data. and maybe, just maybe my government would be the first to suggest that perhaps there is a better way to resolve conflict and by cooperating in those efforts it would be the first step toward a more peaceful world.
meanwhile in front of the keyboard, i depress the "publish post" button and another thought is sent into cyberspace which may or may not die of loneliness but then again it is the thought that counts.
