track season & the politics of sex
two months pass. i post nothing to this blog convinced that not many read the words and since only a handful of those few who understand the idea actually know the author completely - i was either emailing you when i could but i confess to being distracted by engaging in a political forum from my local paper, the times union.
two months of engaging in debate with others over issues concerning the bush administration or the war in iraq have convinced me that we are a divided nation whose future will be determined by the victor in our civil war of the 21st century - the one for america's soul -the conflict between those values of a free society and those values of a society which is not free - (are we a growing police state permitted to violate the very laws a numberless number of people died to protect and preserve - the ones we officially remember on memorial day and veterans day - how shameful we remember those that sacrificed their very lives for freedom with such orwellian double speak in "the patriot act")- a civil war between the ones who wage war based on deceit and deception and those who would not.
the future of the american empire is in the balance - we can choose a policy of mutual co-existence through a mutual understanding that we are all in this same lifetime together and pursue a common purpose to make this a better place to live for all forms of life that follow or we can continue to pursue a policy of preemptive strikes until we must accept the consequences of our actions - owing its inevitability to violence begets violence.
got side tracked - in any case how much time do you think we have to put the ideology of our country as expressed in jefferson's declaration of independance from the tyranny of empire. to overcome the ideology of this political party or that political party and their corporate sponsors before it's too late to betray the american revolution?
meanwhile in yova's world, i had an opportunity to stop and smell the roses and the garbage as well:
the track in saratoga is open providing an opportunity for boobus americanus to be entertained by horses running around a track for the amusement of the homo sapien, the self proclaimed higher species - the mediocre masses who seek any distraction from world events of death and destruction - that uncomfortable truth - that all that is happening in iraq and all that it spawns globally is being done in "our" name - and the mob that prefers the comfortable lie that we are not responsible when we embrace the dark side of the human spirit - and if it is true that who we are tomorrow is the result of our actions today - tomorrow's forecast does not look that promising for a peaceful world.
i suppose one can claim that one has to get away from the everyday trials and tribulations of every day existence and "enjoy life" - but what's that they say about "eternal vigilance" and "liberty" - when the government defines "enjoy life" haven't they violated the social contract between man and government as expressed in our declaration of independence - do we have time to watch a horse beat other horses in a race - can the future of liberty endure one more track season with record breaking numbers?
meanwhile, the local press provides the self rightous a chance to condemn a 42 year old married mother of 4 for having sex with boys under the age of consent at a school where she taught. the moral outrage is non-stop from the pious with insatiable appetites for that gossip which appeals to their prurient interests - so lofty in their judgements while showing no shame for their lack of compassion - such rank and shameless hypocrisy.
but then again - sex sells - we really aren't a very sophisticated tribe. and politically sex is even better. look at bill clinton - the benefactor of falatio performed by a young intern - the right wing taliban demanded the impeachment of such an embarrassment as president - and dishonest at that - yeah right like any married man is going to admit to a nationally televised audience that he was engaging in sexual relations with another person - just another example of the state of denial from which right wing rhetoric is spawned - most married men would would do the honorable thing and lie, confess in private, and accept the consequences for one's actions.
is it possible that some people actually enjoy the suffering of others. i would assume clinton's wife, and daughter suffered as a result of his actions. and i'm sure a woman who was married to the v.p. of a bank, a woman with 4 children, a woman who now faces incarceration is certainly suffering emotionally as a result of her actions. and i'm sure her husband and her 4 children are suffering in unimagineable ways.
but where is our moral indigation, our sense of outrage when a man wages war based on deceit and deception. isn't he responsible for his actions as well? shouldn't he and his administration be held accountable for those actions?
maybe laura bush wasn't joking after all when she claimed george w was jerky off a horse on his ranch in crawford, a horse that will one day race in saratoga during track season before another record breaking crowd.
