DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN
nearing the end of the summer of my years i am resigned to no longer wasting time watching nightly news condense the world in which we live into sixty second sound bytes placed on a teleprompter to be read by a television host that plays the roll of a celebrity game show host doing an infomercial over the course of nineteen minutes daily.
without analysis what passes for news today is nothing more than a premature ejaculation to fulfill the immediate gratification of those who can ill afford an informed society. personally I want to know as much as I can about those decisions which will affect my ability to live what is left of my life in liberty to pursue a peaceful existence.
recently the most glaring example of the fourth estate exercising its freedom of the press that so many fought and died to preserve was the reporting ad nauseam on one john mark karr. mainstream media unleashed the hounds on a story they could sink their teeth into and leave their viewers salivating for more sordid details and assorted minutia. indeed the media participated in and perpetuated this farce while asking “why is america absorbed by the ramsey case”?
imagine if their journalistic instincts weren’t in some state of suspended animation for the last five years and they actually reflected the courage to investigate the allegations presented as a causus belli for invading iraq as well as the people who made the supporting statements and their motivations. perhaps they could even find out why the war in iraq which would pay for itself has cost over 300 billion dollars and expose the profiteers.
nearly four years later and the power of the press shows little inclination to inform the public who indeed is responsible for this crime against humanity, nor to interview those who have the intestinal fortitude to right a wrong by accepting responsibility for our actions as a people rather than follow a course that will only end in death and destruction abroad and eventually at home.
We are but two months away from the november 06 election, one in which the punditocracy speculates will result in at least the house being controlled by democrats and the party in power once again plays the fear mongering theme accompanied by recent al-qaeda videos that justify its existence because it can ill afford to be investigated and possibly found responsible and worse to be held accountable.
how ironic that george bush and his co-conspirators are ratcheting up the rhetoric against fascism when one of fascism’s most famous followers said “…voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. that is easy. all you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. it works the same way in any country.” (herman goering)
