Yova's Mid-term Rant
The polls and most if not all of mainstream media report that the one issue that most Americans are concerned about and which will determine the outcome of the mid term elections is the reality of Iraq. The punditocracy claims conventional wisdom is that the Democrats will control the House but the Senate is really up for grabs.
The prevailing reality is that even after all the intelligence failures of this current criminal Republican Administration the public voted to reelect this pretend president although when making such claims it is always wise to remember Joseph Stalin's observation that "the people who cast the votes don't decide the election, the people who count the votes do". The 2000 and 2004 general elections confirmed the accuracy of Stalin’s observation.
It’s not a result of pessimism that I too suspect the Democrats will prevail but only in the House in which a Speaker Pelosi has already claimed her House would not move to impeach George W Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors. Once again no one is responsible and no one is accountable because the opposition party responds to tyranny with appeasement. Maybe the rabid right of the Republican Party wasn’t too far off when claiming that Democrats are soft on terrorism for the record since 1968 shows they certainly are timid at home in the face of despotism
The Nixon election campaign committee committed a federal crime by interfering with and engaging in U.S. foreign policy by telling the South Vietnamese delegation to the Paris peace talks not to accept the LBJ offer because they would get a better deal with a Nixon Administration. In order to get elected, to secure power he told the public he had a secret plan to end the war in two weeks.
I couldn’t believe anyone would even admit to being a Republican let alone vote for one after the first Nixon term because four years later we were still at war in Vietnam, there was no secret plan but there was the Watergate break in yet in the face of that reality 49 states still voted to reelect Richard M. Nixon only to be impeached, resign from office, and be pardoned for high crimes and misdemeanors for which he was never tried by Gerald Ford another Republican who had the distinction of trying to impeach Supreme Court Justice William Douglas merely for having a relationship with a law clerk 50 years his junior.
Only the State of Massachusetts voted against Nixon not because it was a liberal state but because he favored busing as a form of integration and Vietnam ended with Henry Kissinger’s version of Orwellian double speak “peace with honor”. It was the same peace that was on the table in Paris in 1968. More than half of all the life lost on both sides occurred after Nixon was elected the first time because he had “the secret plan”. A second Nixon Administration under the spell of Dr. Kissinger was able to violate international law in Chile
The Reagan election campaign committed a federal crime similar to Nixon’s by interfering with and engaging in U.S. foreign policy by negotiating with the terrorists in Iran by trading arms for hostages. The day Reagan was sworn into office was the same day the hostages were released. Indeed it was Reagan’s Oscar award winning performance.
Reagan would later go on to commit crimes against international law in Central America. In fact the Sandinistas (assuming “facts” do matter when presenting a cogent position in search of truth however in the 21st century “facts” have been replaced by the kind of “faith” that permeated the dark ages centuries ago. Perhaps too this is cyclical much like the seasons although manifested during the course of a much longer period of time and “time” is relative for “facts” no longer matter.
The fact is that during Reagan’s Administration the Sandinistas took their case to the International Court of Justice in the Hague. According to the World Court the mining of the harbors was an example of “force against another state,” and the US support of the contras “amounted to an intervention of one state in the internal affairs of the other.” The Sandinistas won in court but the U.S. under a Reagan Administration refused to recognize the court’s jurisdiction. Indeed the entire perception that we as a people “believe in the rule of law” is reduced to ridicule when required to prove such an observation.
The Republican Reagan Administration and those who supported it with their votes for eight years was also involved in selling weapons to Iran, it was actively involved in training para-military groups in Central America e.g. El Salvador to torture and kill as well as involved in active participation in more crimes against humanity, and this Republican Administration sold weapons of mass destruction to another terrorist this one in Iraq when Rumsfeld was shaking hands with Hussein and this Republican Administration would support the Taliban and Osama bin Laden be reelected to office by a landslide.
Indeed the public was so enamored by Republican Administrations that George H.W. Bush one of the central figures in the Iran Contra scandal was elected to office. On his watch we would claim Noriega was now a criminal and the U.S. would commit more human rights violations by invading Panama in order to capture a former CIA employee. In addition H.W. Bush would fabricate evidence against Hussein in order to justify the first invasion of Iraq. Iraq did not have 500,000 troops amassed on Saudi Arabia’s border nor were Iraqi troops removing Kuwaiti babies from incubators on the ends of their bayonets. Facts and truth did not matter to this Republican Administration either.
The high crimes and misdemeanors of the Nixon Administration, the Reagan Administration being found guilty of violating international law and supporting terrorist states and organizations, the violations of international law in Panama committed by the George H.W. Bush Administration, the high crimes and misdemeanors committed by the current Bush Administration which waged a war in Iraq based on deceit, deception, fabrication, and out right lie, we have in our midst a president who has unquestionably committed high crimes and misdemeanors and the world has in its midst another war criminal.
Yet after all this crime and corruption people still claim to be Republicans, run for political office as Republicans, and be supported by a majority of people who identify themselves with Republicans by voting Republican or live in a district where a voting machine from a company owned by a Republican is used to count the vote. That there are still people today who embrace the criminal foreign and domestic policies of Republican Administrations which are more characteristic of fascist rather than democratic nations is a strong indication that the future of this republic has yet to be determined as long as nearly half of those that cast their votes prefer tyranny to democracy. As long as the Democratic Party prefers to appease these neo-fascists of the 4th Reich it really doesn’t matter who wins the House or the Senate.
