The American Dream - Part 3 - To Your Health

The state of health in this country is such that in 41 other countries people live longer than Americans and 40 countries have a lower infant mortality rate than do the people in the world’s richest country because other countries have improved health, improved nutrition, and improved lifestyles while this country has been slipping in such international rankings from 11th just 20 years ago to 42nd today.

According to researchers a primary cause of the decline is that 45 million Americans lack health insurance. Last week in Kansas City Mo a man who did not have health insurance threw his 75 pound partly blind seriously ill wife four stories to her death because he could no longer afford to pay the $700 to $800 per week for her medical treatment of her neurological problems and uterine cancer.

The husband who had to do that to his wife was charged with second degree murder because he admitted killing his wife before throwing her 4 stories but that still didn’t change the reason for his action.

In the end a seriously ill woman who just happens to be one of 45 million Americans without medical insurance has her life of suffering ended nearly 30 years before she can reach the median life span of 77.9 years that Americans are now expected to live.

In the end bail was set at $250,000 for a man with a net worth of less than $6,700 who will finally get medical insurance and have a better chance of reaching the median life span as long as he remains caged in an 8 x 12 cell of suffering. In the end can we still boast that we Americans believe in the sanctity of life created in God’s image?
