AMERICA'S FAVORITE PASTIME

Mr. Bullshit baseball player from the Dominican Republican, Alex Rodriguez, held a well staged press conference at the Yankee training camp in Tampa FL this past week that was supposed to put an end to the story that A-Rod was juicing up his game. Indeed major league baseball could no longer afford to be put in the public spotlight.

The integrity of the game was being challenged and all of baseball hoped A-Rods confession would put an end to all this talk about steroid induced statistics is having an adverse affect on their product given the state of today’s economy. In essence it’s bad for business.

His explanation was that he and his cousin bought what they thought was an energy enhancement drug over the counter in the Dominican Republic because he felt that he had to live up to the enormous expectations placed on him by becoming the highest paid baseball player of all time when he signed with the Texas Rangers and he felt that way because he was young, foolish and ignorant.

This was a show for the public so they could forgive this juiced up freak and let the game go on. The questions asked by the press were for the most part softball questions asked to solicit a mea culpa and “I’m sorry” in the hopes that the worshipping public would forget that the apology came after his name was exposed as a juicer.

Although the press was handcuffed by the rule that no follow up questions would be asked and nobody but nobody asked him about the interviews he did with 60 Minutes in 07 and Katie Couric in 08 in which he outright lied and in the process mocked the suggestion that he was juicing it up because with sheer lack of modesty in his mediocre mind he was the best player in the game and he boasted about not needing the artificial boost of juice. In essence A-Rod lied and didn’t come clean until he got caught.

In fact only Yankee management, his teammates and the most loyal of A-Rod fans would find his bullshit story plausible because within days the press found out the drug purchased in the Dominican Republic couldn’t be purchased over the counter and without a script. Surprise, surprise A-Rod lied again.

Apparently A-Rod wasn’t that foolish or ignorant either because it had to take some smarts to figure out what substance to get, how to use it, how it would enhance his performance, how to get it and how to conceal it from everyone except some cousin who was sticking needle in A-Rod’s twenty eight million dollar a year ass.

As for his confession that he was under tremendous pressure to produce in Texas which prompted his reliance on steroids does anyone who knows anything about the sport really think he would have less pressure in New York where he signed a bigger contract?

Based on recent facts turns out that A-Rod has been hanging out with some guy named Presinol who once upon a time circa 2001 got busted as a steroid bagman in Toronto compelling me to suspect A-Rod has been juicing with a designer steroid that masks detection through at least 07 and I strongly suspect his confession was an attempt to limit the scope of his juicing to his years in Texas.

Seems to me like A-Rod committed fraud when he sold himself to the Yankees as the best player in the game supported by statistics that were the result of steroids and not pure athleticism but that didn’t real matter to the Yankees because they saw a player that had a strong possibility of setting baseball’s all time home run record so they signed to a ten year deal.

Think about A-Rod’s pursuit of the home run title and all that future revenue that the chase will generate. Remember what McGuire and Sosa did for baseball? A-Rod is a cash cow for the New York Yankees who just built another a new stadium that opens up this year right across from the house that Ruth built and one day the new stadium will be called the house that Rodriguez built. Imagine that right across from the house that Ruth built.

Since the baseball strike in 94 the game’s owners let the juice flow or looked the other way for a generation of poster boys like Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod et al posing as athletes to entertain the masses while the owners made their millions and so did the freaks pretending good enough to convince the ever unwitting public and always too eager to be entertained to believe, to worship and to financially support America’s favorite pastime * where today the only statistic that matters has been reduced to the numbers that follow the dollar sign and the name of the game is greed and corruption where baseball imitates life on Wall Street.
