AM 1300 REPUBLICAN RADIO

Republican radio is alive and well in upstate New York at 1300am under the ownership of Paul Vandenberg our local nattering nabob of negativity. A Siena grad with a degree in Business and the financial backing of like minded nabobs permits him to own a radio station that qualifies him to display a level of ignorance in his partisan political opinions that reflect the provincial attitudes of the capital district by blaming ad nauseam the “tax and spend” Democrats for all the problems that New York now faces.

The latest issue that revealed his partisan agenda is the Congressional race in New York State’s 20th Congressional District to replace former Representative Kirsten Gillibrand aka Tracy Flick the annoying overachiever in the 1999 movie “Election” who defeated the incumbent John Sweeney in the 2006 election in large part because Republican hypocrisy and incompetence was being exposed nationwide and locally Sweeney was accused of abusing his wife and yes there were issues about his alcohol abuse.

That Sweeney was one of the thugs shouting down the vote in Florida had little or nothing to do with him losing the election but had everything to do with me cancelling my subscription to the local paper that endorsed him.

The contestants in this special election are Jim Tedisco a lifetime resident and long time New York State Republican Assemblyman and the Democrat Scott Murphy a new to politics Missouri born somewhat successful business man.

Vandenberg’s dog in this fight is Jim Tedisco. That this simpletons nonsense appeals to anyone is a testament to our intolerance of anything that challenges the status quo as well as a strong argument that the Fairness Doctrine should be returned to the public airwaves. Somehow this Christian Conservative clown gets to forget that his hero, Ronald Reagan, created this economic mess with his trickle down economics of an unfettered, unregulated free market capitalism supported by incompetence, corruption and greed in the casinos on Wall St. which was legalized by both sides of the political aisle in Congress. As it so happens Reagan was also responsible for getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine and opening the flood gates to the ignorance perpetuated by talk radio.

Vandenberg doesn’t get. The Republican Party is primarily responsible for the mess we’re in – socially, economically and politically and the Democratic Party was largely complicit. Yet here is the obscurant Vandenberg praising the failed policies of the past and promoting their return by supporting the Republican candidate who didn’t even register in the 20th District to vote for himself but he did show us what kind of a Representative of the people he would be when he claimed he was going to take on Nancy Pelosi who seems to have become a lightening rod for Republican venom.

The people in the 20th District will indeed get what they deserve if nearly half the people will be represented by a fighter against change and the nearly half of the rest should not expect someone who is willing to cooperate with those who put country before party.



Vandenberg doesn’t even understand the simple concept that shit flows downhill and he serves no other purpose than to spew the ignorance that he himself wallows in. Since the Democratic Party seems to once again lack the backbone to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine the public airwaves of AM radio will remain monopolized by mindless chatterboxes of right wing jingoism who perpetuate that which divides us and provides fertile ground for the triumph by the tyranny of ignorance that will produce the inevitable end of our republic which was built on the lofty rhetoric that no longer resembles the reality of this empire’s collapse.
At the end of the day I remain dazed and confused by the thought that people not only listen to this undereducated college grad who can’t understand the concept that shit does indeed spread down hill but they actually call him up and with rare exception agree with Vandenberg in a shameless display of public stupidity - so much for the theory of Intelligent Design.
My level of tolerance for such nonsense was reached within ten minutes. I turned to AM 590 only to hear the same crap repeated by a male/female team of propagandists while AM 810 offers up the pill poppin’ Limbaugh. I turn off the power but I still can’t turn off the perception that demagoguery still plays a major role in our political discourse and as such reduces to rubble the chances that our democracy will ever achieve those values of liberty and justice for all.
